A recent Women in Tech gathering led by Sandy Woo under PIKOM, the National Tech Association of Malaysia, brought together leaders from diverse industries including marketing, sales, entrepreneurship, and technology. The event served as a meaningful platform for dialogue, mentorship, and collective empowerment.

The central theme of the session, “Give to Gain,” highlighted the importance of mentorship, guidance, and community support in helping more women step confidently into leadership roles and re-enter the workforce.
Empowerment Through Community
Panel discussions emphasised that while technology continues to evolve rapidly, it cannot replace the value of human connection. Real progress occurs when individuals actively support one another by sharing knowledge, opening opportunities, and fostering inclusive professional networks.
Speakers also reflected on the importance of building stronger ecosystems that encourage women to participate not only as professionals but also as leaders, innovators, and decision-makers within the technology sector.
Progress and Representation
Despite ongoing advancements, women currently hold approximately 15% of board leadership roles, highlighting the continued need for initiatives that promote diversity and representation at senior levels.
Efforts across the industry, including those highlighted by YB Teo Nie Ching, are helping strengthen pathways for women to participate more actively as creators, advisors, regulators, and industry leaders within Malaysia’s growing digital ecosystem.

Looking Ahead
The Women in Tech gathering reinforced a powerful message: empowerment goes beyond opportunity. It requires confidence, resilience, and the courage to speak up and lead.
As Malaysia’s technology landscape continues to grow, initiatives that nurture mentorship and collaboration will remain essential in building a more inclusive and innovative future for the industry.
